In Germany - Königstein

This post is by Ada and Karen:

We flew with Icelandair from Boston to Iceland and from there to Frankfurt. It was a long flight. Some of our first impressions of Germany is that it is sort of like America but also a bit different.

We have an apartment in a town called Königstein. There is a 700 hundred year castle in our town that we can see from our windows

We are very tired after a long trip. We go to our first game tomorrow: Germany vs. Nigeria.

There are lots of German flags here. People told us that theyare flying their flags from their cars and windows to support the German national team. They say it is not as much as in 2006 when the Men´s World Cup was held in Germany. A lot of people here though are into the Cup which is great.

We just finished our first meal in Germany. We went to an Italian restaurant which was weird since we are in GERMANY. Our fathers ordered a gross pizza. It wasn´t gross - it was big (get it?).

Above are pictures from our room and from our balcony.

Predictions

At the beginning of the tournament, here are my predictions for the semifinals and finals.

Germany vs. USA (2-1)
England vs. Brazil (0-2)

Finals: Germany vs. Brazil (3-0)

I predict, therefore, that Germany will three-peat and become the 2011 World Cup champions.

What do you think?

What to watch for in the Cup

ESPN has extensive coverage of the Cup. Here is a nice overview of their take on what to watch for in the upcoming tournament. Two of our four games make it on their "call in sick that day" list.

Our four games

We will see four games in Germany. We are very excited because we will see some of the best players and best teams in the world. Our game schedule is as follows:

June 30th: Germany - Nigeria in Frankfurt
July 3rd: Brazil - Norway in Wolfsburg
July 6th: Sweden - USA in Wolfsburg
July 10th: Quarterfinal match between C1-D2 in Augsburg

Germany here we come!

Welcome to the 2011 Women's World Cup blog. Here you can follow our trip to Germany. We leave on the 28th of June and we will see four games.

Last year I went with my son Benni to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and we had a great time. This summer I will be going with my daughter Karen Magnea (10) and her friend Ada (11) and her father Alan to see the best women in the world play soccer. It is a remarkable and a very positive development that the Women's World Cup is now a major sporting event. Both Karen and Ada are awesome soccer players and they really wanted to go see the Women's World Cup.

Above is a photo taken last summer (2010) when Ada and Karen went to watch the USA play England in the Men's World Cup. Starting June 29th we will start our regular posts with plenty of photos!
